Job Summary

If you have a passion for outdoor education, high adventure, and empowering girls and young women, then Girl Scouts might have a position for you!  Girl Scouts of Greater Atlanta is seeking part-time (weekend) Outdoor Program Facilitators for Camp Misty Mountain (located 40 minutes north of Rome, GA).  These individuals generally have the opportunities to work 2-4 weekends per month providing exceptional program activities and customer service.

 

Outdoor Program Facilitators play a vital role in creating an empowering and enthusiastic camp culture, and will work throughout the season with a variety of groups and ages in Troop Camps, Weekend Camp Events, and Family Camp situations.  These team members have the responsibility of creating a high-quality experience, ensuring the emotional and physical safety of campers, staff, and guests.  You will ensure that the experience is girl-driven and girl focused, and work as a leader in the camp community to create a culture of empowerment and enthusiasm for everyone.   

Duties & Responsibilities

Successful candidates will have the opportunity to receive training (and possibly certification) in a wide range of sports and activities and gain immense amounts of leadership and facilitation experience.  This is an ideal role for individuals seeking to expand their skills in customer service, youth leadership, experiential education, curriculum design, and environmental education.  Outdoor Program Facilitators at Camp Misty Mountain learn and facilitate activities including:  

  • Archery
  • Riflery
  • Canoeing
  • Swimming (Lifeguard Certification Available)
  • Team Challenge “Low Ropes” Program
  • Rock Climbing Wall
  • “High Ropes” Challenge Tower
  • English & Western Horseback Riding (and Equine related programs)
  • Zipline
  • Hiking & Backpacking
  • Finding Your Way (Trails Signs, Map & Compass, GPS & Geocaching)
  • Outdoor Skills (Knot tying, lashing, fire building, outdoor cooking, etc.)
  • Weird Science (STEM Activities)
  • Songs, Games, and Guitars!
  • Night Time Exploration

Skills & Experience

  • Men and women, over the age of 18, and young women over the age of 16 trained as instructors in horseback riding, sailing, canoeing, kayaking, challenge course and archery are encouraged to apply. 
  • Candidates with extensive, documented experience who are lacking current certification may be considered. 
  • Must be able to successfully pass a MVR, Criminal, and Sex Offender Background Check
