Volunteer Experience

Job Summary

The Temporary Volunteer Support Specialist works to support, through the volunteer and the Service Unit structure, the effective delivery of the Girl Scout Leadership experience.  They work cross-functionally with volunteers to ensure that Girl Scouts of Greater Atlanta retention, financial and business goals are met.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Works with Service Unit and cross-functional teams to determine or develop innovative strategies to ensure the effective support of troop leaders and girls
  • Identifies the need for and provides problem solving and conflict resolution when appropriate and in a timely manner
  • Encourages quality adult recognitions, both formally and informally
  • Assists with Service Unit events and meetings in assigned territory as needed
  • Act as Service Unit Director when needed, implementing the service unit action plan, until a qualified volunteer is recruited and appointed
  • Keeps current on all council information and messaging that is offered to volunteers; act as a broker to distribute information between council staff and volunteers as needed
  • Acts as the council subject matter expert for all items related to and impacting adult volunteers
  • Provides oversight and accountability for complying with council policies and procedures, including finances and governance
  • Demonstrates and promotes a climate of courtesy and professionalism at all times
  • Maintains strict confidentiality when handling sensitive information
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Demonstrates through action the qualities of the Girl Scout Law

Skills & Experience

  • Volunteer Experience in Girl Scouting, strongly preferred
  • Ability to work well with people, network with staff and volunteers
  • Subscribe to the principals of the Girl Scout Movement
  • Must successfully complete a criminal, national sex offender search, and motor vehicle background check
  • Willingness or ability to work a flexible schedule, including frequent nights and weekends
  • Willingness to drive 90 miles or more, round trip, from home on a regular basis
  • Requires the physical mobility to sit or walk for moderate periods of time and to occasionally carry or lift objects weighing up to 30 pounds.
