Job Summary

The Program Specialist (Aquatics & Challenge) will provide support to specialty program areas including, but not limited to, Challenge (Challenge Tower, Zipline) and Aquatics (pool and small craft) activities.   

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Supervise staff and campers in the areas of spotting, belaying, challenge course equipment management, and a high level of individual and team development facilitation techniques.
  • Responsible for ensuring the highest standards of safety and quality programming are met in both pool and lake environments.
  • Become certified as an American Red Cross Lifeguard, in Small Craft Safety, and as a Challenge Tower and Zipline facilitator with skills in canoe, kayak, sailing, and windsurfing.  

 

Skills & Experience

  • Documented experience/certification in the skills required for this position within the last three years. 
  • Ability to successfully complete multi-day on-site facilitator course during Staff Session Training.  
  • Current Lifeguard certification, including CPR/FA, Bloodborne Pathogens, and use of an AED. 
  • Certification, or ability to complete certification in Small Craft Safety or equivalent boating course

Qualifications

  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to evaluate performance and give feedback
  • Ability to make observations and complete paperwork
  • Supervisory experience
  • Maturity in problem solving and decision making
  • First aid and CPR training
  • Provide proof of USA citizenship or appropriate Alien documentation
  • Must be able to complete & clear a Criminal & Sex Offender background check

 

Physical Working Conditions

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to stand; walk on uneven surfaces; sit; handle or feel objects; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear; taste or smell.
  • The employee must be able to lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Work is performed in the outdoors with regular exposure to insects and wildlife; weather conditions prevalent at the time (i.e.: heat and humidity, rain and storms); and walking several miles a day at a brisk
