Program Specialist: Equine Counselor - Camp Misty Mountain


Job Summary

The Counselor (Equine) will assist in all areas of Equine Center operations.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Feeding, grooming cleaning stalls, arenas, and paddocks, maintaining tack, and other equipment.
  • Assist in all equine center lessons including riding lessons, ground school, and stable management. 
  • Counselor (Equine) will also be engaged in program activities and camper leadership, and will live and work alongside other members of staff in living units with campers.  


Skills & Experience

  • Extremely strong riding skills, preferred
  • Previous experience in teaching horsebacking riding to others  
  • Ability to successfully complete two day “Seasonal Equestrian Staff Certification” (Certified Horsemanship Association) held during Staff Session Training required.
  • Must have a passion for working with young women in the out of doors!



  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to evaluate performance and give feedback
  • Ability to make observations and complete paperwork
  • Supervisory experience
  • Maturity in problem solving and decision making
  • First aid and CPR training
  • Provide proof of USA citizenship or appropriate Alien documentation
  • Must be able to complete & clear a Criminal & Sex Offender background check


Physical Working Conditions

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to stand; walk on uneven surfaces; sit; handle or feel objects; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear; taste or smell.
  • The employee must be able to lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Work is performed in the outdoors with regular exposure to insects and wildlife; weather conditions prevalent at the time (i.e.: heat and humidity, rain and storms); and walking several miles a day at a brisk
  • Noise level is usually minimal to moderate.
