Job Summary

We have 240 wooded acres right outside the city center of Atlanta in Mableton/Smyrna Ga area. We are a true camp complete with a lake for canoe, kayak and paddleboards; archery; challenge course; zip line; giant swing; miles of hiking trails; arts and crafts facility; large swimming pool and climate controlled cabins and dining hall.  During the summer we operate a premier day camp in the Atlanta area for girls PreK-9th grade and a residential program for teens 9th-12th grade.

 

We are looking for dynamic young women to provide a top rate camping experience for your girls.  All staff will live and work on camp starting the end of May until the end of July. Staff will we assigned a group 8-10 girls weekly they are responsible for during group times and then will teach 5 activities of their interest during the day. In the evenings we have overnights for our day camp girls and one night a week is staff in-service. A typical day for staff begins a little before 7 am and wraps up around 7pm except for overnight nights. Staff can expect 2-3 hours each evening and this changes based on evening program with the girls. Staff can expect to have Saturday’s off and Sunday mornings each week. Staff applying should have a willingness to do whatever it takes to ensure the girls have a fantastic time while at camp and be 100% girl focused while in your care!

Duties & Responsibilities

Kitchen Aide Role

  • To report to the kitchen in a timely manner before meals, to prepare for the meal, and complete the following duties.
  • Prepare plates, cups and silverware for the tables
  • Prepare water and juice coolers
  • Dispense milk during breakfast
  • Set up condiment table with cook’s guidance depending on menu
  • Write menu on white boards on the doors each meal
  • Set up dishwater in the bins for silverware
  • Wash dishes after meal
  • Wash pots and pans after meal
  • Put away clean dishes after washing
  • Sweep and mop dish room, front bathroom, lines front/back, spot mop dining hall floor
  • Take out trash and recycling after every meal including bathrooms
  • Wipe tables in dining room
  • Clean bathrooms in dining room
  • Clean off serving line after meal
  • Clean glass windows on doors twice a week
  • Record dishwater temperatures daily
  • Help prepare cookouts as needed
  • Put spray bottles and rags out at each meal for girls to clean tables for you
  • Keep dish rags clean- wash after breakfast and lunch daily
  • Wednesday’s – pop all tables do a thorough sweep of the floor, and prepare for the rangers to do thorough mop
  • Friday’s- pop all tables put against the walls and thoroughly clean them after lunch to prep for weekend
  • Work and live together as a team with 6-7 other 16/17 year old girls
  • Be willing to share challenges and successes with Older Girl Director on a daily basis so you can be fully supported in this job
  • Help maintain safety and food health standards.
  • Participate in camp programming when not on duty in the kitchen
  • Maintain dining hall reporting as needed.
  • To assist with opening and closing days as needed.

 

Junior Counselor- Role

  • To participate as a member of the kitchen team. Responsible for assigned campers on a daily basis and to assist with the entire unit duties as assigned under the supervision of the Unit Counselors.
  • Participate in programs and activities with campers giving adult guidance and leadership.
  • Interpret and administer personnel policies as well as Safety-Wise, ACA and Camp guidelines.
  • See that activities are carried out in a manner consistent with Safety-Wise and good judgment.
  • Use girl planning to help the girls plan and carry out the unit program.
  • Act as a camptivity leader in a variety of program areas. (i.e. weird science, drama, sports, archery, etc.)
  • Serve as a role model and guide campers in appropriate behaviors, language, attitudes, and activities.
  • Maintain child’s self-esteem
  • Are not demeaning in their feedback to a child (i.e. no taunting or teasing of children who learn or move more slowly)
  • Help girls live and work together as a unit.
  • Facilitate communication, conflict resolution and problem solving within the unit.
  • Help girls develop individual responsibility.
  • Keep their supervisor informed of plans, problems and concerns pertinent to unit operation.
  • Be aware of the ongoing medical needs of campers.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

 

Skills & Experience

 

  • Ability to follow directions and obey safety rules
  • Work as a team
  • Ability to read temperature chart
  • Good health and stamina necessary to live and work in a camp setting
  • Ability to lift 20-50 pounds
  • Preferred minimum age – 16 years
  • Provide proof of USA citizenship or appropriate alien documentation
  • Registered Girl Scout
