    If you have a passion for outdoor education, high adventure, and empowering girls and young women, then Girl Scouts might have a position for you! Girl Scouts of Greater Atlanta is seeking part-time (weekend) Outdoor Program Specialists for Camp Timber Ridge located in Mableton, GA. These individuals generally have the opportunities to work 2-4 weekends per month providing exceptional program activities and customer service.

     

    Outdoor Program Facilitators play a vital role in creating an empowering and enthusiastic camp culture, and will work throughout the season with a variety of groups and ages in Troop Campings, Weekend Camp events, and Family camping. These team members have the responsibility of creating a high-quality experience, ensuring the emotional and physical safety of campers, staff, and guests. All employees will ensure that the experience is girl driven and girl focused, and will work as a leader in the camp community to create a culture of empowerment and enthusiasm for everyone. 

    Duties & Responsibilities

    • Lead Programs and Activities with campers by providing adult guidance, supervision and leadership
    • Interpret and administer personnel policies as well as Safety activity check points and the American Camp Association guidelines
    • See that activities are carried out in a manner consistent with the Safety Activity Check points and using exceptional judgement
    • Act as a activity leader in a variety of program areas such as canoe, archery, challenge course, and lifeguarding (training is required)
    • Serve as a role model and guide campers in appropriate behaviors, language, attitudes and activities while maintaining a child's self esteem and providing positive correct feed back when appropriate
    • Facilitate communication, conflict resolution and problem solving with the campers
    • Help girls develop individual responsibility
    • Keep supervisor informed of plans, problems and concerns pertinent to camp operation
    • Be Aware of the medical needs of campers as related to program activities
    • Assist with cleaning all camp as needed throughout and after program events
    • Other duties as assigned by supervisor

     

    Skills & Experience

    • Good Health and stamina necessary to live in the camp setting
    • Ability to make decisions and act wisely in an emergency
    • Understanding of the needs, abilities and interests of girls
    • Gain training/certification in at least one area: archery, canoe, challenge course
    • Current certification in First Aid and CPR/AED
    • Preferred minimum age 18, High School Graduate or active participant in Girl Scout Program
    • Stamina to keep up with active children
    • Ability to traverse rough and uneven terrain
    • Ability to walk to and from activities 2-5 miles per day
    • ability to lift 25 lbs

    • Must be able to successfully complete a MVR, Criminal and Sex Offender background check
